I went from luke-warm to HOT (Ben 4/29/19)

Un PaČ™te Fericit! Happy Easter!

Maybe I said that last week, but the orthodox Easter was this week, so I got to celebrate it twice. Everything here in Moldova is still going well, the weather is warm, and the buses are more full then ever.
So just an interesting fact about Moldova, this is the only country which sells beer in McDonalds, which is awesome. Also if you want to get a better idea of what the culture is like here, check out this video  or just look up, traditional Albanian picnic. Moldova is almost the same, except they would be wearing coats, and would be squatting instead of sitting on the ground.
The parks here are awesome, and the contacting this week has been really good because of the better weather. I think that people are just more likely to believe in God if they see the sun. I dont know why that is a correlation, but it is here.

Mom or Dad, send me the recipe for peanut butter cookies and Grandpa's 12 tribes chart. Everyone else, the next time you see my parents, remind them I need these things urgently.

For a spiritual thought, I really liked the scripture in D&C 29:34. So God truly is the same yesterday, today, and forever. That means a lot of things, but I would like to focus on covenants. All of our earthly covenants that we perform on the earth today have always been that way. They aren't just weird things our church does today, but they are much deeper, meaningful, and necessary that we can comprehend, and they have always been that way and will never change. So the way we perform covenants is obviously a little different then they were in the beginning, for example, we speak English, and ancient people did not. We are baptized while wearing cloth white jump suits, and I doubt they had zippers in 4000 B.C. We drink water for the sacrament, but we really could use wine of our own make. The list goes on, but there is an important thing that we have during these covenants and ordinances, which makes it valid, and that is authority.

We can learn a lot about this in the Old Testament, which is a book that is totally underrated. "Beth-el" or "the place of God" or more exactly as it says in Genesis 28:17 "this is none other then the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven". This place of Beth-el is where God has communicated with His Prophets, ie Genesis 35:15. Sometimes Beth-el was just on a mountain (Joshua 16:1-2), or it was an actually House of God. We learn that Prophets have always received their keys in these places (2 Kings 2:2). It is the place in which certain covenants have been done. These places have always been consecrated (Gen 28:19). To make a long story and mountains of scriptural evidence short, we have Temples on the earth today, which are these same places. We do the same covenants in them as they did in ancient times, and we have prophets in the same manner. We have the authority and power of God on the earth today, and the restored Church has that same authority, and does not deny that same power of ancient times.

God truly is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Even though there my be super minor differences, The Church of Jesus Christ is on the Earth today, with the same path towards happiness. However, to have hope in this restored gospel is good, but we are asked to have faith. Faith is action, and that means doing and performing these covenants, and following commandments. It is our job to act in faith and study, and learn of our purpose, which are these covenants. What does the sacrament really mean? Why is baptism by full immersion that important? Why do we need to be sealed in the temple? How do I continually receive Eternal life? etc. I encourage/ challenge all of you who read this to please learn more and try and understand the meanings of these covenants that we do, because I know it has helped me! Hoped that makes sense of what I am trying to get across.

Bull-moose crab (Cubby 4/29/19)

Another Busy week!

yeah the week started off well on Tuesday, we taught an impromptu 2 hour English class, which went well, and we followed that with 6 lessons. Wednesday we had district meeting led by former AP Elder Pratt, so it was really good as well. Thursday and Friday went well, but on Saturday we had 5 out of 6 lessons fall through. Oh well. Sunday I gave a 10 minute talk in church (no, not in English), I was not very nervous for it, which was the most surprising part. Yeah but Elder Russon and that marvelous Brain of his has been helping us prioritize and consolidate the mass amounts of people me and Elder Chun acquired. So this transfer has felt sort of like phase 2 so far.

For a spiritual thought I'd like to use an investigator as an example. He's 14, can't read. But he loves lessoning with us, and he is not ashamed to feel the spirit. He has never been to church before, but when we invited him, he felt the spirit and has been coming ever since. Contrary to our expectations, he struggled as hard as he could to read Ana Boki Moomon. He says he doesn't remember what it said, but he said that he remembers that it touched him. To me this signifies that  God understands each of us and our abilities, and if we give him our effort, he will accept it and bless us, despite our natural talents.

Hit me up with Questions

Elder Cubby

From the coal, turn my lead into gold (Ben letter 4/22/19)

Why hello there, this is elder Stanfield coming from Moldova. Under and out

Jk. I think I will write something. This week has been better, I have been able to get a lot more conversations with random people. I think its a mixture of the weather getting warmer, and me getting better at the language, but either way its been a lot more productive. So a really good day consists of getting religious conversations, and then you know you're having a great day when someone yells at you and tells you to go back to America. But you know its only because you have to have opposition to progress, so they're really helping me  and they don't even know it. However the people here are awesome, in fact there is practically no crime on the streets or anything like that. So if you left something out overnight, it might get stolen, but probably not. However there are like government guys stealing half the governments money, so I guess its go big or go home here.

Apparently we (my family) might be moving, so I am excited about that. However, I don't want it to fulfill Cubby's worst nightmare, of his life becoming just like the movie "The RM".

So for a spiritual thought, I don't really have one specifically this week. However I can testify that I know God lives, and that His Son, Jesus Christ died for our sins, and rose on the 3rd day to save our bodies. I am also really enjoying the book "Jesus the Christ". I thoroughly enjoy history, and religion, but when you mix the 2 on top of in depth concepts, its hard to beat. The more you learn about the history, circumstances, language, etc of scriptures, the more knowledge you will have. At least it has helped me understand more of "where do I come from", "why am I here" and "what is my purpose after I die". They seem simple, but it takes more then a whole life time to really know the answers. And that's why we are here on earth, to find our purpose of existence. Happy Easter! Keep Jesus at the center of your life.

123456789 Motor Scooters, Gula! Gula! (Cubby letter 4/22/19)

Mauri people of the world!

Pretty different week I suppose, considering transfers happened. Elder Chun went to Abaiang, my last area, and his first outer island so I was pretty excited for him. And my new companion is Elder Russon, who just got of the island of Merekei, and this is his first time back in Tarawa for 4 months. He's one transfer older then me in the mission, he's a good guy. His way of teaching is very similar to mine actually, so it's great. Yeah so we've been busy the last week, and with Elder Russon's fresh look at the area we've been able to do a bit of consolidation, ie dropping investigators and reevaluating where people are at in their spiritual progress. I've quite enjoyed it. He's from Utah, got a 4.0 GPA and a 36 on the ACT and credits it to the Grace of God. Great guy.

Anyway since it's Easter for you guys I would just invite you all to remember the Death and Resurrection of Our Savior Jesus Christ, and to recognize the mercy that is involved throughout the Atonement, and the products of it. Through Him we will all Live again and we are all able to be saved through Him. Just think about it some time.

I tangirngkami,

Elder Cubby
